Warmth is Here to Stay

Unseasonably warm air has set up over the area, and will be hanging around for the foreseeable future. High pressure is in complete control; will provide sunshine and temperatures in the mid 60s this afternoon.

Although I think we’ll fall just short, it’s worth noting that some areas across the Commonwealth could make a run at breaking their record-high temperature for Christmas Day.

This is obviously the reason there’s a warrant out for Christmas’ arrest — false impersonation of a season, with Santa thought to be a leading culprit with all of his reindeer games.

Our NWS office provided the following in their morning forecast discussion:

Christmas Day is expected to be the warmest with highs in the mid to upper 60s! Records for Christmas Day as as follows:

City: Record:

Bowling Green 72 (2016)

Lexington 70

Louisville 68 (1893)

Rain Chances Hold Off Until the Weekend

As far as sensible weather impacts are concerned, we’re not looking at dealing with much of anything for the remainder of the “work week”. This is good news for commuters going to and from Christmas/holiday visits over the upcoming days.

Our next chance at rain will arrive this weekend.

The current thinking for arrival is late Saturday, in the form of scattered, light rain showers.

GFS Model Valid Friday night through Sunday night (via Pivotal Weather)

More likely chances for showers & storms will arrive Sunday, with what appears to be a nice cool down for the final days of 2019.

For comparison, we could be looking at high temperatures ~25-30˚ colder by this time next week.

Merry Christmas Eve to all! We’ll be updating our Santa Tracker over at @wxornotBG throughout the day. Take care and be safe!
