Approaching Cold Front to Bring Rain Showers

Good morning friends, and welcome to wxornotBG! It’s been a mild and dry start to the week, but changes are coming as an approaching cold front will bring rain showers to the area.

One More Day of Dry Weather

Today will be our last day of dry weather before our next cold front sweeps through the WABBLES region. High pressure that was overhead to start the week will now be moving to the east.

Winds will begin calm, and increase to around 5-10 mph from the southeast this afternoon. Temperatures will reach around 65ºF, which is normal for this time of year. While we will start out with sunny skies, clouds will be on the increase this afternoon ahead of the front. We can expect to start seeing clouds mid afternoon (2-4pm).

Models are in decent agreement that we could start to see some sprinkles or light showers tonight around 6pm. These won’t last long, and definitely are not the main event.

The main event looks to come on Thursday morning and last through the day. Besides the small chance of sprinkles/light showers, tonight will remain overcast as the front approaches. Temperatures will drop to around 47ºF, with winds remaining mostly light and variable.

First Rainy Day of November

November has started off dry, which is slightly below normal. Our last rainfall was on Halloween, which we ended up getting a pretty good soaking (1.40 inches to be exact). Now we will start off our Thursday with another good soaking.

The main event of widespread, soaking showers look to come before the morning commute tomorrow. Don’t forget your umbrella, because it’s going to rain for a while. Widespread showers will continue after the lunch break, and finally move east by the mid afternoon hours when the kids get out of school (2-4pm).

Outside will not only be damp, but pretty chilly as well. Highs are only expected to reach around 54ºF, with winds gusty at times. Winds will be out of the north 10-15 mph, with gust up to 20 mph. If that’s not enough to persuade you to remain inside, I don’t know what else could. Wind, rain, and chilly conditions all make for a dreary day to enjoy the indoors. We could see upwards of an inch of rain, possibly slightly higher in some areas caught in heavier rain bands.

Rain showers will move out during the afternoon hours, but temperatures will be nose diving. Skies will be gradually clearing behind the front, but the winds will help usher in much colder temperatures. With 10-15 mph winds and gusts up to 25mph, our low temperatures will bottom out around 25ºF.

Chilly End to the Week

Those chilly low temperatures will carry over into the morning hours on Friday. Luckily skies will be clear and sunny, but the temperatures won’t warm up much. Friday highs will top out around a crisp and cool 42ºF, with winds north-northeast winds. High pressure sitting over Illinois will keep us dry and cool heading into the weekend.

If you have plans for Friday evening, don’t forget the jacket on the way out. Temperatures will be around 35ºF at 6pm, and 32ºF by midnight. Eventually we will drop all the way down to 24ºF early Saturday morning.
