Stormy Monday

Waking up and heading out the door, I would advise you to pack the umbrella as showers and storms will move into the area during the morning and afternoon hours. Temperatures during the morning hours will be hovering around the 60-degree mark and will quickly rise back into the middle 70s throughout the afternoon hours.

High temperatures today. (NWS)

An upper-level trough over the Central Plains will continue to move east into the Great Lakes region. The trough will send a strong cold front through the Ohio River Valley.

A squall line (an elongated line of thunderstorms) out ahead of the cold front is expected to move through the WABBLES region during the morning hours. This initial line of showers and thunderstorms will weaken as it moves into the region.

As these storms depart the region around lunchtime, there might be enough time for more heating and instability (fuel for the development of stronger thunderstorms) to develop across the area before the second wave of storms develop along the cold front. If more instability moves into the area, there will be a better chance for some strong/severe storms. Less instability would me weaker storms.

The Storm Prediction Center has the area under a Marginal outlook for severe weather. A slight chance of thunderstorms producing areas of damaging winds and a quick spin-up of a weaker tornado, especially with the amount of wind shear (changes in wind speed and direction with height in the atmosphere). After the cold front passes, conditions will begin to clear up with temperatures dropping into the 50s by the evening hours.

Tuesday & Wednesday

An area of high pressure will begin to build into the region behind the departing area of low pressure. Temperatures will be cool as you head off to work on Tuesday morning, might need a light coat heading out the door. Temperatures rebound as we head into the afternoon hours back into the middle 60s making it feel quite pleasant with sunny skies. Winds are expected to be on the gustier side, with gusts up to 25 mph.

Temperatures early Wednesday morning will drop into the upper 30s, might need the coat again. Otherwise, Wednesday looks absolutely spectacular with temperatures around the area rising into the upper 60s under sunny skies.
