Strong Cold Front Means A Cooler Weekend

Fall has finally (mostly) fallen throughout the region and will get a re-enforcing shot as we head into the weekend thanks to a powerful storm system off to our north. Quite the fall-like airmass will be on the back side of this storm system so, the system’s associated strong cold front means a cooler weekend.

Frontal System for Friday

We’re going to have quite the change between the beginning of the day on Friday and the end, all thanks to this cold front.

We’ll start the day partly cloudy and mild, with decent breezes out of the southwest between 10-15 MPH, wouldn’t surprise me to see some gusts near 25 MPH or so. Temperatures before the front should peak near 80° or so during the afternoon before quickly falling through the evening hours. Rain chances will be there as the front works through during the late afternoon and evening hours, though our impacts will be limited to some gusty showers and winds shift to the northwest.

Thanks to stiff northwest breezes, we’ll cool quickly through the 70s and 60s during the evening hours as the rain begins to taper. Not the best night for high school football, but if you’re headed out: grab the rain gear and some warm clothes before bottoming out overnight near 40°.

A Fine, Fall Saturday

The front will have finished clearing the area by early in the day on Saturday, ushering a crisp fall airmass into the region.

Northwesterly breezes will rule the day and help us decrease the cloudiness after the morning hours while simultaneously keeping us on the cool side under high pressure building in.

We’ll start to clear on out during the afternoon hours, with highs only topping out around 60°. Sounds like a perfect day to stay inside and watch football to me, but if you’re headed to The Houch for WKU’s tilt with Army at 6:00pm, you’ll definitely want to grab the hoodie or coat. Temperatures will be falling through the 50s during the game before bottoming out overnight near 35° for the chilliest weather of the season so far.

Moderating on Sunday

Our northwesterly breezes will slack off a bit to close out the weekend and even start a switch back on to the southwest, setting the stage for what will likely be a fairly comfortable afternoon.

After a chilly start where you’ll definitely need the coats if you’re headed out for services (and may even see a little bit of frost!), things will stay mostly sunny, and with lighter winds, we’ll push closer to that 70° mark for an afternoon high.

Fall weather continues as we fall to a chilly low near 40° during the overnight hours as mostly clear skies will allow us to cool quickly through the evening.

Appealingly Autumnal Into the New Week

As you’re getting the kiddos back to school on Monday, our fall-like weather will continue with highs in the lower 70s. More of those much needed rain chances return as we head into the middle of the week as a couple more disturbances head our way. After those, we’ll cool back to highs only around 60° or so by late in the week.
