Slight Warm Up For Mid-Week

Good morning, friends, and welcome back to wxornotBG! I hope you have been taking advantage of these great temperatures the past few days. Sunshine will still be in the forecast, but also a slight warm up for the mid-week.

Slightly Above Normal

We are currently sitting between cold fronts. The cold front to our east is what came through this weekend/Monday and gave us those much needed rain showers and cooler temperatures. We have another cold front out to our west currently, and we should see it in a few days.

Winds will be light today, but mostly out of the south-southeast. This will help filter in some warmer air for the WABBLES region. Expect sunny skies today, with temperatures reaching around 78ºF. Not bad, but definitely better than what we had this time last week. Normal maximum temperature for this time of year in BG is 74ºF.

Overnight, skies will remain mostly clear as we are in between two systems. Temperatures will drop overnight to around 57ºF, which makes for a perfect, chilly, fall night. Can’t beat it!

A Tad Warmer on Thursday

We’ll wake up tomorrow to another gorgeous sunrise. Clear skies will stick around for Thursday, but the winds will now be out of the south and up to 10 mph. This will again help advect warmer air from the south, so expect our afternoon highs to quite possibly reach 80º-82ºF.

High pressure that we currently have will eventually move out, allowing this next strong low pressure system to make an appearance. Clouds will be on the increase tomorrow, but skies will remain mostly sunny. For Thursday night, skies will remain partly cloudy. Winds will remain light as temperatures only drop to around 59ºF.

Cold Front Coming Friday

Friday will bring another welcoming change to the forecast. A powerful low pressure system will bring snow to people of the north, but for us in our old Kentucky home, we can expect showers and maybe a few thunderstorms. Friday will start out partly cloudy, getting a few rays of sun, but definitely an increase in clouds. We could begin to see some precipitation by lunchtime, around 12-1pm. GFS is thinking we’ll see showers and storms just to our west by 1 pm on Friday.

Decent showers and maybe a few embedded thunderstorms will continue Friday afternoon as the cold front passes over us. By 7 pm, the GFS is thinking we could be seeing some heavy downpours.

These downpours look to line up pretty well with the passage of the cold front. So, expect temperatures to nose dive during the evening hours on Friday. As for during the day, temperatures will reach 80ºF before the front arrives.

If you plan on going out for Friday night, don’t forget a rain jacket. A few showers may linger into the evening hours, but should end by 1 am at the latest. Temperatures after the cold front will be a chilly, in the upper 40s to low 50s. We should bottom out around 44ºF, which will be pretty chilly, The GFS thinks we will drop to 38ºF, but I think that’s a little too cold.

As for rainfall, we should see between 0.5 to 1 inch. Impacts are expected to remain minor as the ground is still rather dry and should be able to handle any downpours easily.
