Oppressive Summertime Heat is set to Return

Good Sunday morning, folks! I hope everyone has had a great start to September. I hate to be the bearer of bad news today, but oppressive summertime heat is set to return to the region soon.

One Last Nice day

Well, I hope you folks have enjoyed the weather that we have had around here over the past several days, because it isn’t gonna last much longer.

You’ll at least have one last day to revel in what should be a simple transition to Autumn weather as the sun angle decreases, ya know. Expect some high clouds passing through as a thunderstorm complex to our NW dissipates.

Storms off to our northwest are expected to weaken significantly. However, the leftover clouds should still make it here. h/t COD Weather

Other than that, look for mostly sunny skies, with highs in the mid and upper 80s. Dewpoints won’t be too high, either, so if you need to take an afternoon run or something, it won’t be bad to do so.

The Heat is Now Back

Oh boy. You know how they always think “Texas is back” in football? Well, they seemingly never are. You know what is back? This really intense heat.

A strong ridge of high pressure is forecast to develop over the eastern and southeastern portions of the country through mid week, and hang around for quite a while.

This will lead to increasing temperatures as the ridge increases in strength, beginning Monday. Highs are expected to be in the lower 90s Monday, but quickly end up in the mid and possibly upper 90s by Tuesday and Wednesday.

With dewpoints jumping into the upper 60s and lower 70s again, look for intense heat index values at or above 100ºF during this stretch.

As always, be sure to avoid extended periods of time outside during peak heating hours. h/t pivotalweather.com

As always, be sure to take precaution during this time. Outdoor activities may need to be limited or held to the evening after the sun goes down.

By the latter portion of the week, look for a cold front to push in and give us a chance at an isolated storm or two, but the front doesn’t look that strong at this time.
