Howdy folks, and happy Wednesday to you all! Yesterday’s storms sure did pack a punch, as we saw some flooding (*cough*…Fairview Plaza… *cough*), plenty of fallen trees, and power outages. Bowling Green airport even measured a wind gust of 59 mph! We could definitely use the rain, and more is on the way as we will have an active pattern through the end of the week.
Last Day of Hot and Humid Conditions
Showers and storms are possible today as a cold front approaches the area. We may see some isolated afternoon storms pop up due to heating.
Speaking of heating…expect afternoon temperatures to top out around 92ºF. Heat index values should once again be close to 100º, making any outdoor activities dangerous. However, today should be the last day with this tropical airmass in place, so the humidity will be pushed out by this approaching cold front.
Besides some afternoon pop ups, models are beginning to agree on another round of some strong to severe storms approaching from the northwest tonight (similar to last night). Threats with these systems are damaging winds, heavy rainfall, and frequent lightning. We may get some small hail, but is not expected to be a major threat.
Storm Chances Stick Around on Thursday
The approaching cold front will eventually stall over Kentucky, become a stationary front, and drop several rounds of showers and storms.
We could see some showers and storms during the morning hours. Our best chances look to be during the afternoon/evening hours. The Storm Prediction Center has our area in a Marginal Risk for severe weather (level 2 out of 5).
Similar to these other storms, main concerns will be damaging winds and heavy rainfall. Luckily the ground has been so dry lately that is should be able to take a bit of water. The problematic areas will be more urban areas with drainage issues.
Tomorrow’s températures will be a warm 88º, but at least the high temperatures are trending downward. Skies should be mostly cloudy all day as that front will keep skies active.
More of the Same on Friday
Well folks, y’all wanted rainfall, so now’s your chance. Your lawn and plants/garden will definitely enjoy the continued rain chances. Multiple rounds of showers and storms will continue for Friday, but the front will finally be moving out.
Temperatures will be much better for Friday, as highs are only expected to reach 83º. This is a noticeable difference from what temperatures were this past week. Otherwise, skies will remain mostly cloudy, which will be helping to keep temperatures down.
