Heat Tightens Its Grip on South-Central Kentucky

Good morning, everyone! Welcome to the weekend. We’ve had quite the stretch of hot weather lately, and it looks to continue as the heat tightens its grip on us here in South-Central Kentucky. However, there is relief in sight.

Way too hot! (Giphy)

Heat Begins to Build Today

Saturday looks to be the coolest day we’ll have compared to the next few days, but it won’t be cool by any means. Expect highs today to crawl into the low 90’s. Dew points will also be muggy in the low 70’s. Consequentially, heat indices will feel like the upper 90’s. However, we have the chance for some scattered thunderstorms today, but models are still in disagreement.

This compares the HRRR and the NAM models for this afternoon. They can’t seem to agree on rain chances.

If we see the rain today, then that will help cool those temperatures off a little for some of us. Otherwise, expect it to be hot. Lows tonight offer mild relief in the low 70’s.

Scorching Start to New Week

The heat builds as we look to start a new week. Sunday highs keep us in the low 90’s again, but heat indices will feel more near 100. Expect a dry Sunday as a high pressure to our east dominates. Take precaution, as this kind of heat can cause problems. Wear loose clothing, drink lots of water, and limit your time outdoors, if you can. Make sure to check on elderly, children, and pets, too.

Monday doesn’t look to change much weather-wise. Highs will be in the low 90’s again with heat indices right around 100 and sunny skies. I feel like I’m just repeating myself at this point! Low temperatures won’t offer much relief either in the mid-70’s. Just remember to practice heat safety tips.

Relief Comes Mid-Week

We’ll see one more scorching day on Tuesday, but then the excessive heat finally seems to let us go. A system from Canada will bring a cold front our way Wednesday, bringing the best chances for precipitation. It will also bring cooler and drier air to replace the heat we’ve been feeling. Climate models show a chance at below average temperatures around this time, which is much welcomed.

We’ll keep watching what will happen with this next system as it approaches.

That finishes today’s forecast. Thanks for reading! Follow our live weather feed @wxornotBG, as well as on Facebook, for all your weather updates. Stay cool!
