Heat and Storms are on the Return

I hope you have enjoyed the recent tranquil weather around the area (I know we sure have!), but it is still summertime and, with that, often comes the chance for thunderstorms and, unfortunately as we head into the new work week heat and storms are on the return.

Dry, Warm and Muggy for Sunday

But, we’ll hold off on those thunderstorms for one more day, because high pressure is still exerting control on the region.

This will keep us dry to finish close out the weekend, but with the high pressure to our east…it will have an effect on temperatures. We’ll climb closer to 90° as winds start to slowly shift off to the south. We won’t yet have the direct feed to the Gulf of Mexico, so our dew points won’t be too crazy under mostly sunny skies.

Things should stay on the quiet side overnight, with lows dropping to near 70°.

Heat Returns for Monday

Sweltering heat befitting the dog days of summer re-enters the picture to start the work week. High pressure shifting off to the east along with a warm frontal boundary crossing the area will bring back scorching temperatures to the region.

Southwesterly winds will carry in quite the tropical airmass as heat combines with moisture from the Gulf of Mexico to boost highs into the lower 90s.

I think the GFS is slightly under-doing temperatures here, but it will certainly be warm and sticky. (Pivotal Weather)

Combine that with rising dew points climbing into the 70s and heat indices will make the leap to around 95°, so keep those heat tips in mind.

Not even a passing shower will provide relief from the stuffiness as partly sunny skies will reign tomorrow. Lows don’t fall much below 70° overnight with partly cloudy skies continuing.

Strong Heat and Strong Storms Tuesday

Heat and humidity remain the stars of the weather show through Tuesday afternoon, strong southwesterly breezes push us to near 95° for the afternoon hours. Moisture will pool ahead of a frontal system poised to blast through the area during the evening hours. Dew points will soar into the mid and upper 70s, yielding heat indices between 105-110°. That’s back up in the danger zone.

Seriously, try to stay inside Tuesday afternoon, especially if you can’t find those oars you’ll need to get to the car. Relief comes in the form of a cluster of storms that will attempt to work through the area during the evening hours.

With the ample heat and humidity these storms have to work with, we may see a few strong to severe storms as that cluster tries to work through. Gusty winds and heavy rainfall look to be the biggest threats at this point, but we’re a couple days out and things can change, so make sure to keep an eye on the forecast.

We also might just get an inch or two of rain out of this as well.

After the storms clear the area, we’ll stay mostly cloudy and near a muggy 75° for an overnight low.

Drying and Staying Warm for Midweek

Once we get the storm chances out of the way, things settle back into a more familiar pattern as we head toward the middle of the week. We’ll decrease the humidity back to normal levels keep temperatures hovering around 90° again…oh, and we keep the skies mostly sunny!
