Plentiful Sunshine Before Rain Returns

Happy Thursday morning, everyone! Welcome to August! August is typically one of the hottest months of the year for Kentucky, and summer is definitely making its presence known. This will continue for the time being as sunshine and heat stick around, but rain chances return for the weekend. But for now, we’ll enjoy plentiful sunshine before rain returns.

Summertime Conditions Continue

A surface high pressure is working to keep our skies clear today. As a result, temperatures will stay hot. Highs today will reach into the upper 80’s, while Bowling Green metro could reach 90 thanks to the urban heat island. The cold front that passed yesterday has stalled to our east, meaning any shower development will be kept mainly east of I-65.

Generally clear skies and light winds from the north will allow temperatures to cool to the upper 60’s overnight.

Showers Develop for the Weekend

We will kick off the weekend with another hot, but sunny, day Friday. Highs will be in the mid-80’s under mostly sunny skies with some occasional clouds. The stationary front will continue to keep most of the thunderstorm activity to our east, but a stray shower can’t be ruled out.

Things start to change on Saturday as the stationary boundary starts to shift back our way, bringing rain chances with it. We will start the day off partly cloudy, but showers could begin to develop during the afternoon hours. These showers could last into the overnight hours and into Sunday as well.

Otherwise, highs on Saturday will be in the mid-80’s before cooling to the low 70’s overnight.

More Rain Chances to Start the Week

Thanks to the upper-air pattern we’re under, any small change could bring scattered showers and thunderstorms chances to our area, and that’s what we’ll see into next week. Our next big rain event could come later in the week with an approaching cold front, but that’s something we’ll have to watch for the time being. High temperatures look to remain average as well in the mid-to-upper 80’s.

That finishes today’s forecast. Thanks for reading! Follow our live weather feed @wxornotBG, as well as on Facebook, for all your weather updates. Enjoy this beautiful Thursday!
