Warm, But Pleasant Weekend Ahead

Happy Saturday, folks!! Warm temperatures and sunny skies are on tap, with a pleasant weekend ahead of us.

A strong area of high pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere is centered over the southwestern part of the United States. This area of high pressure is allowing a northwest flow in the mid-to-upper levels of the atmosphere to filter into the Ohio River Valley which will contribute to keeping the weather dry during the weekend.

At the surface, high pressure exists to the east of the area and as the weekend progresses, it will continue moving east. This area of high pressure at the surface will allow return flow to kick. This happens when an area of high pressure moves to the east of the area, wind circulates clockwise around high pressure usually coming in from the south. Return flow will allow warmer temperatures and more moisture to pump into the region.

Heading out the door this morning, temperatures will be in the middle-to-upper 60s. South winds at around 10 mph will pump in warm air throughout the day, allowing the temperatures to rebound back up right around 90 degrees. Other than the development of some popcorn-like cumulus clouds during the afternoon hours, the area will be dry.

During the overnight hours on Saturday, temperatures will drop back into the upper 60s with clear skies. Things don’t change a whole lot from what they are like today while we head into our Sunday. Temperatures rise back into the lower 90s with sunny skies, again don’t rule out some scattered clouds throughout the afternoon.
