Excessive Heat to End the Week, But Relief Is On the Way

Welcome, everyone! Glad you could make it this morning. I hope you all have been staying cool, because this heat isn’t going anywhere for the next few days. We’ve been put under an Excessive Heat Warning for the weekend, but relief is on the horizon.

Excessive Heat Warning Through Sunday

Our friends at the National Weather Service in Louisville have put all of our coverage area under an Excessive Heat Warning until Sunday night. This means that heat indices for the weekend will range from 100-110 degrees thanks to high daytime temperatures and oppressive dew points. Take precaution if you will be outdoors and remember to never leave children and pets inside your car.

Dry Conditions to Finish the Week

Along with the heat comes dry conditions as well. Today will be mostly dry with the chance for pop-up thunderstorms this afternoon, but they will be few and far between. Highs will be in the upper 80’s but don’t be surprised if we make it to 90 in some areas. Dew points will be pretty uncomfortable in the upper 70’s making it feel more like the 100’s.

Friday and Saturday will be very similar, with highs in the low 90’s and dew points in the mid-70’s. Expect little to no precipitation as well. It will be a beautiful weekend, but this is when heat indices can get high, so stay aware and take breaks if you will be outside.

Cold Front Offers Relief to Start the New Week

Sunday will be the last day for the oppressive heat, with a high near 90, as a cold front approaches and brings the chance for rain Sunday night into Monday. A high pressure will follow bringing cooler temperatures and drier dew points. Hooray!

This will send our daytime temperatures below average for this time of year, with highs looking to be in the low to mid-80’s. Climate models are showing these cool temperatures might actually stick around for a while, too.
