Afternoon Storm Chances Return

Hit or Miss Storms

All good things must come to an end. While we will start out sunny today, its those afternoon temperatures that will help kick off some hit or miss storms. Temperatures this afternoon will reach the neighborhood of a toasty 92ºF. A “cold” front out to our west will working its way eastward towards our area.

The HRRR currently has scattered storms popping up around 1-2pm, and mostly to our west and south. I wouldn’t necessarily count on all of these storms staying out of our region, as models do tend to have some difficulty with predicting diurnal temperature driven storms.

Any storms that do develop will be similar to last week, such that they will be slow movers, dumping buckets of rainfall, and frequent lightning. Just because there’s a lot of lightning, does not mean it is a severe thunderstorm.

By the overnight hours, skies will be partly cloudy with temperatures dropping to around 75ºF.

Same Forecast for Thursday

By Thursday morning, that “cold” front will finally be passing through the area. Bringing with it chances for additional showers and storms. Best chances will be from later morning to early afternoon. Below is the GFS’s prediction for Thursday at 1 pm.

Afternoon temperatures will reach 90ºF, which definitely won’t feel like a cold front went through. However, winds will be shifting to be out of the northwest, so drier air will be moving in. This drier air will help lower dew point temperatures, and relieve us from muggy conditions.

By the nighttime hours, skies will be clear, with temperatures dropping to around 65ºF. The low for Thursday is forecast to be 10ºF cooler than Wednesday’s low temperature!

Beautiful Friday to End the Work Week

Thanks to that cold front, drier air will help keep skies mostly clear and sunny for our area. High pressure quickly follows in behind the front, which will also help keep skies clear, but also winds light.

Temperatures will also be slightly cooler, reaching 86ºF. With lower dew points, the humidity won’t be as bad. Friday night will be a great start to the weekend. By 7 pm, skies will still be clear with a temperature around 79ºF. It will be a great evening to enjoy the outdoors, but don’t forget the bug spray!
