Warm and Windy Today Before Dramatic Cool-Down

Hey folks, prepare for breaking daily high temperature records by wearing a windbreaker as we will be warm and windy today before a dramatic cool-down that will jolt us back to winter for the remainder of the week.

Warm, Windy Day Dries Last Night’s Rains

After a long, soggy night, we should stay cloudy but mostly dry until the mid afternoon. Some left-over ponding on the roads and light showers are still possible for your morning drive though. However, the greater story will be winds gusting up to 30 mph and temperatures tickling 70⁰ due to our position between the warm and cold fronts of the low pressure system passing to our northwest.

In approximately the 3-5 p.m. time frame tonight, a strong cold front will pass through our area. A line of storms will likely form at the leading edge of the front providing us a slight chance for damaging wind and flash flooding. Behind the front temperatures will drop dramatically–as in a 15⁰ temperature drop in less than an hour.

We will drop below freezing by midnight and fall to the low 20’s by daybreak tomorrow morning. Thankfully, this return to winter is unlikely to feature any threats of snow or black ice because of the sharp precipitation cut-off behind the front.

High pressure takes over on Friday and Saturday leaving us sunny but cold with highs only reaching the 30’s each day. Especially bundle up in the mornings as wind chills will make it feel like the lower teens.

Warm and Wet Again for Sunday and Beyond

Looks like we will return to a warm and wet pattern for Sunday and Monday as another stationary front sets up over our region. Rain showers and above average temperatures in the low 50’s are a good bet for Sunday and into early next week.
