After yesterday’s surprise snow in portions of Logan and Butler County that lead to treacherous travel, our entire area is now under the threat for slick travel.

We’ll be dealing with freezing fog this morning, with an advisory put in place until 9am:

Quiet Christmas Eve

After we get this freezing fog nonsense out of here, rays of sunshine should dominate today. It’ll still be cool, near-average for this time of year, with afternoon highs topping out around the mid 40s.

Cloud cover will be on the increase this evening, ahead of our next weather maker.

A Christmas Miracle?

If you’re a snow enthusiast like myself, your fingers are crossed for a “White Christmas Miracle”.

Although our chances aren’t great, it’s worth noting that a scattered wintry mix of rain/sleet/snow will be possible tonight through mid morning Christmas Day.

The latest NAM 3km illustrates the possibility, with temps falling to right around 32˚ by sunrise:

We just might get a little something on the ground, before temps scamper back above freezing by mid morning.

All in all, this weak disturbance shouldn’t be too much of a hassle, but we’ll keep our eye on it.

Next System Thursday

Partly cloudy skies will hang around Christmas night into Wednesday, with warmer temperatures in store. Our warming trend will continue Thursday with highs in the low 60s (!!!), but that’ll come at a cost.

A low pressure system will evolve, getting its act together near the Mississippi River Valley, and cut a path northeast to the Great Lakes:

This will bring an associated cold front through our vicinity, that’ll result in likely rain & storm chances. The GFS illustrates, valid Wednesday night through Friday afternoon:

We’re not anticipating severe weather, however, a few storms could become strong.
