Good morning, folks! I’ll be honest with you, the scenario that has unfolded has been relatively unexpected. Our region has seen a fairly impactful freezing rain even unfold during the overnight hours. This winter storm begins to wind down today, leading to much nicer weather.
This Morning
Well, folks, the precipitation is hanging tough. It is pivoting around the region as the surface low and associated forcing begins to move off to the east and northeast. Check out the latest radar.
The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the region until 11 am, but impacts from this will be felt until we finally rise above freezing.
Specifically looking at this morning, we should continue to see freezing rain threat come to an end between 9 and 10 am as precipitation begins lifting to the northeast.
While roads have been far above freezing for much of the night, they have now fallen near freezing. This will lead to multiple slick spots across the region this morning as you head out to Sunday services or other Sunday morning activities.
Simply put: be safe out there. Don’t travel if you don’t have to this morning.
The Rest of Your Sunday
Well, once this rain begins to move out, we may finally be able to see the sun again! There are already stations over southeastern Missouri indicating clear skies, and models are indicating that we’ll see at least partly sunny skies this afternoon.
Expect highs to jump into the upper 30s, so don’t expect the ice to hang around too long.
Much Nicer Start to the Week
Monday and Tuesday look much nicer than this weekend. Monday may see clouds hang a bit tough across the region as a bit of leftover mid-level energy works southeastward.
Nothing significant is expected out of this, however. Expect highs in the lower 40s during the afternoon. Not a bad forecast, but nothing special.
Sunshine really returns in force by Tuesday. We will begin to see signs of a warm up as the surface high across the Midwest works its way to our south.
Between that and a developing low across the northern Plains, southwesterly winds and sunshine will help to kick our temps into the mid and upper 40s for highs.
Tuesday looks to be one of the nicer days of the week.
Gloomy Late Week
The Wednesday-Saturday period just looks…bleh. A couple of disturbances will work their way to our north and south by Wednesday. This will increase cloud cover across the region, but also looks to increase chances at rainfall by Wednesday night.
Clouds and rain chances hang around on Thursday, but really kick into gear as our next significant system looks to approach on Friday and Saturday. Highs during this time frame will be from the mid 40s to the mid 50s.
