A warm one yesterday as southerly flow took over and gave us some toasty weather and that will continue as we get another summer preview today but rain’s on the way.
Thursday Toastiness
Things remain warm as we begin to close out the week and today will be no exception.
The high pressure from earlier this week is well off the coast and we are out ahead of a low pressure system that’s been causing severe weather out in the plains this week. That means, yep, southerly winds will dominate and that means warmth.
There’s a decent shot we make a run at around 85º but it wouldn’t surprise me if we sneak into the upper-80s before all is said and done this afternoon. And that’s just fine by me. Clouds begin to filter in late today and into tonight as that next storm system moves in. We’ll stay balmy tonight, with lows only around 65º
Rain Returns for Oaks Day
All good things must come to an end and for us, usually, that means rain.
The plains storm system will finally head our way and ramp up the rain chances both here in south-central Kentucky and if you’re headed up to Louisville for Kentucky Oaks festivities.
As the phillies run for the lillies, the hi-res NAM likes to put some scattered showers and storms around the region.
Scattered showers and storms are a good bet for the day tomorrow along with those breezy southwesterly winds which will keep us warm, even under the clouds. We still top out near 80º even. Shower chances continue at night, but we’ll be able to cool down to near 65º or so as we lose the breeziness.
Showers Stick Around for Saturday
Models have been trending wetter for Derby Day itself as the week has gone on but it looks like details are beginning to become a bit clearer.
Models are beginning to point towards trying to get the rain through here earlier in the day and trying to dry out the skies by the time of the Derby itself in Louisville later on in the day. But there’s some variability in the models at this point so we’ll definitely keep watching.
For now, plan on scattered showers with temperatures hovering around the 75º mark but we’ll start diminishing those at night as the front begins to clear, allowing us to drop into the mid-50s.
That just about does it for me! Follow our live weather feed @wxornotbg for the latest. Have a terrific Thursday!
