Rainy and Stormy Saturday Leads to a Major Cool Down

Happy Saturday, folks! Hope everyone had a great week, and is looking forward to the weekend. It’ll be a great day to stay in and relax, as a rainy and stormy Saturday leads to a major cool down.

Rainy Saturday

As we speak, a complex of thunderstorms is slowly but surely moving into our region. Those in our western counties (Butler and Logan) are seeing the majority of the storms right now, but that should change soon.

There is a chance for some severe weather in the form of strong wind gusts with these storms, so keep any eye on that this morning.

These will be slow to move out of the region today, as well. The models haven’t handled the currently placement and strength of the rain and storms, but I can assure you that rain will be around for much of the day.

We are probably as warm as we’ll get today; we’re sitting in the upper 60s to around 70 across the region. With plentiful cloud cover and rain, we shouldn’t warm up much.

The main threat with these storms will be lightning and isolated flash flooding. We’re looking at 1-3″ of rainfall, so avoid areas prone to flooding (*cough cough* Fairview).

The HRRR model is showing 1-3" falling across the region over the next 18 hours. h/t pivotalweather.com

Much Colder Sunday and Monday

The cold front is looking to push through late tonight and early Sunday, ushering in a new airmass that, frankly, looks terrible.

Sunday looks like an Autumn day in spring. Clouds will hang around for much of the day, with isolated showers moving through as well. Temperatures will only get up into the low or mid 50s as best.

It just looks cool in general tomorrow. Take a jacket if you're going to Church or to the grocery store or out in general on Sunday. h/t pivotalweather.com

Just wait, though. Temperatures are expected to fall into the mid 30s by Monday morning as the cold air mass continues moving into our region. It is terrible.

This Spring low pressure system really has been something, and the temperature contrast can be illustrated well by examining the NWS warning map.

You see all of those blizzard warnings? The cold air with that is heading our way for Monday. Expect highs in the upper 40s, with partly sunny to mostly cloudy skies. In addition, a stiff breeze will make it feel worse.

If this forecast makes you sad, don’t worry. We should warm up again for Tuesday and Wednesday!
