Calmer weather is in store for the next few days in the wake of our severe weather event yesterday. High pressure will settle into the region today, providing much calmer conditions. Mostly sunny skies are expected as highs top out around 50°.

With clear skies expected overnight, we’ll likely drop below freezing. As such, a Freeze Warning is in effect for tonight. Temperatures are expected to drop into the upper 20s.

Warmer Thursday

High pressure will remain in place on Thursday. Though, the center of high pressure will move directly overhead, then to the southeast. This will shift the wind to out of the southeast, leading to slightly warmer temperatures in the afternoon. Highs will top out in the upper 50s. It’d be a shame if this were the calm before the snow…

Southerly winds and clouds will keep temperatures much more mild on Thursday night. Lows will only drop into the mid 40s.

Interesting Friday

A front will approach the region but stall on Friday. This will lead to mostly cloudy skies and highs in the low 60s. A few showers may develop by the afternoon hours. The real trouble comes Friday night.

An area of low pressure is expected to ride up the front from the south. This will push the front through the region overnight as low pressure churns to the south of the region. This will bring cold air into the region as widespread showers move in. As such, a transition from rain to snow is possible Saturday morning as lows drop to around freezing.

The snow will continue into Saturday before melting Saturday afternoon. I do expect some accumulations, however it’s a bit too soon to speculate amounts. Just know that Saturday morning traffic may be hindered by snow. Perhaps Wednesday and Thursday is just the calm before the snow.
