Severe Storms And Flooding Concerns

Severe storms and flooding concerns are the main topics in this forecast, and both are possible today. Southerly winds ahead of an advancing cold front will lead to temperatures warming into the mid 70s. The Storm Prediction Center has outlined the region in an “enhanced” risk of severe weather. Think of this as a level 3 out of 5 threat.

There are two opportunities to see severe weather. The first opportunity will come in the afternoon. Several models suggest the development of scattered showers and storms this afternoon. These storms will fire in such an environment that will be conducive to supercell development. This means that all modes of severe weather will be possible, including damaging wind, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. The tornado threat may increase in the late afternoon and early evening. A secondary severe weather threat will exist along the cold front. A line of strong to severe storms should develop on or near the surface cold front. This cold front will move through the region Saturday night. Damaging wind will be the main concern with the line of storms, though an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out. Flooding Concerns

All this rain means there’s potential for some flash flooding. The Weather Prediction Center has placed the region in a “moderate” risk of flash flooding. Think of this as a level 3 out of 4 threat. A “high” risk of flash flooding is noted just to the west of the region. Over an inch of rain is expected throughout the day and overnight tonight.

Nice Sunday

A nice Sunday is on tap for the region. Although conditions will be a bit colder, it will be nice to finally see the sun! High pressure should lead to dry conditions under partly cloudy skies. Highs will top out in the upper 50s. Partly cloudy skies look to remain in place as lows drop into the upper 30s.
