Winter is here…Great…Yay…Woohoo.

Reinforcing cold shot on the way; snowflakes still possible this weekend.

As mentioned extensively, winter is here to stay for quite some time and I couldn’t be less happy about it. Temperatures dropped to around 28° last night and will be some 20 degrees colder than Monday. The temperature even dropped to 24° in Butler County!

Temperatures today will climb to around 50° under partly cloudy skies. Some high clouds will be possible in the morning hours, but some gradual clearing is expected throughout the day. Another somewhat windy day is also forecast as west-southwest winds gust up to around 20 mph this afternoon.

Temperatures will drop off to around 30° tonight under partly cloudy skies.

Reinforcing Cold Shot Thursday

A dry disturbance will push through the region on Thursday morning. This will act as a dry cold front, with no precipitation expected. The cold front will bring a reinforcing cold shot to the region.

Thursday temperatures should top out around 40° across south-central Kentucky. Partly cloudy skies are expected to diminish throughout the day. A northwest breeze will also make conditions feel a bit colder than it actually is.

Temperatures bottom out on Thursday night, dropping to around 21° as the low temperature under clear skies. The European model shown below shows us dropping to around 22°.

We’ll likely remain in the upper 30s for highs on Friday, which will be the first day stuck in the 30s of the season. Winds shifting out of the southwest will have little impact on temperatures by the afternoon thanks to the cold start to the day.

Southwest winds should continue overnight as we’re placed in the “warm sector” of an approaching clipper system. Don’t let the name fool you though, temperatures will still drop to around 25° under mostly clear skies.

Saturday Snow Chances

The clipper will move into the region on Saturday. However, the center of low pressure has shifted well to the north of the region. This, combined with limited moisture, has lessened our snow chances a bit. A few flakes will likely fly Saturday afternoon, perhaps mixed with some rain, however no accumulation is expected at this time.

Another clipper may move toward the region on Tuesday. This may provide another chance for light snow across the region.
