Weekend Starts Great, Ends Wet

The Headlines

Boy, this feels familiar. The begins to warm up as fall’s unending see-saw continues, leading to a fantastic start to the weekend. But, sure enough, rain begins to move in as we start the new work week…leaving us unpleasantly damp.

The Details

Well, at least we’re starting out on the winning side of the weather.

BIG BLUE H, HOW WE SALUTE THEE. (Weather Prediction Center)

That high pressure sitting over southeastern Kentucky is keeping our weather suitably comfortable and (most of all) dry as we head into the weekend. Also, notice that the high is positioned to the south and east of our area…this means that the winds are coming at us from the south and southeast, boosting our temperatures slightly above average for this time of year…and I’m in no way complaining about that.

Today: Some patchy fog possible early, otherwise sunny skies with a high near 75º. Partly cloudy skies overnight will still allow us to cool to around 50º.

  • Wake up: ☀️ 49°
  • Lunch hour: ☀️ 71°
  • Afternoon plans: ☀️ 74°
  • Evening time: 🌕☁️ 65°

And we’ll keep it going to officially start the weekend.

You, tomorrow afternoon. (Giphy)

The high pressure will continue to move off to the south and east, keeping us in nice southerly flow, keeping our temperatures spectacular, topping out in the mid-70s.

I will, however, note the large cold front beginning to take shape out to our west. That’s our next weather maker that’s going to give us rain chances on the backside of the weekend. Clouds will begin to increase late in the day tomorrow and into tomorrow night, which keeps low temperatures from falling too much.

Tomorrow: Mostly sunny skies with a light southeasterly breeze. High around 76º. Clouds increasing throughout the night overnight with a low only around 60º.

  • Wake up: 🌤 66°
  • Lunch hour: 🌤 74°
  • Afternoon plans: 🌤 67°
  • Evening time: ☁️ 58°

And here comes the rain.

This applies to both Sunday’s weather…and Bengals game. (Giphy/NFL)

We’ll be socked in with clouds as the disturbance heads this way, eventually throwing some rain showers our way.

This particular model may not pick up on the scattered showers that will likely form ahead of the main batch of rain. (Pivotal Weather)

While it won’t rain all day, we’ll still be overcast…not a great end to the weekend, especially after the way it started. Temperatures will remain warm with the southerly flow making up a bit for the lack of sunshine. Overall just not a pleasant day.

Sunday: The next system moves in with  and a high in the lower 70s. Showers continue overnight, only falling back to a low near 60º.

  • Wake up: ☁️ 61°
  • Lunch hour: 🌧 67°
  • Afternoon plans: 🌧 72°
  • Evening time: 🌧 68°

The Bottomline

  • Temperatures slowly increasing throughout the next couple of days.
  • Wonderful day Saturday gives way to increasing clouds on Saturday night.
  • Next system moves in for the day on Sunday, bringing showers and a couple of storms to start the new week.
