After a Beautiful Day Today, Changes on the Way

The Headlines

Well, we survived Friday the 13th (unless you’re Clemson’s football team) and we’re going to be rewarded with beautiful weather, just in time for WKU’s Homecoming!

But there are changes afoot and it’s going to feel like fall again in the near future. And I am so ready for it.

The Details

We’ve spent the last few days under the influence of a high pressure system that’s been keeping us dry since the showers we had earlier in the week. Unfortunately, it’s beginning to lost its dominance.

The high pressure being located to the east, means we are in southerly flow, bringing warm temperatures and moisture from the Gulf of Mexico into our region during the day on Saturday. Luckily, we’ll stay dry for our WKU Homecoming festivities, including the football game against Charlotte. But clouds will be on the increase during the overnight hours.

And here’s where the rain comes in.

During the day on Saturday, a line of showers and thunderstorms looks to develop ahead of the cold front out to our west in the mid-Mississippi River Valley and head our way through the overnight hours and into early on Sunday.

This leads to a miserable end to the weekend. One model shows the band of thunderstorms approaching our area early tomorrow but fizzling out…until new storms form along it in the early afternoon.

As the front moves through during the day, it’s going to switch out winds from the southeast around to the northwest, bringing in cooler and dryer air that’s going to be with us early next week. So, yes, this is one of those days that gets cooler as it goes along…not what you were expecting, right?

Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy with widespread showers and thunderstorms, especially early. Becomes breezy as the storms pass. And early high near 75º dropping into the 60s in the afternoon. Skies clear overnight with lows near 45º.

We’re once again going to be under the influence of high pressure and this time, it’s going to be in full force as we start the workweek.

As the high pressure begins to scoot in from the west, it will keep our winds in a northwesterly direction, giving us crisp, beautiful fall air to start next week under brilliantly sunny skies. Cool during the day…even cooler at night with lows approaching only 40º!

Monday: After a brief break, fall returns with sunny skies and a high near 62º. Clear skies continue into the nighttime hours with lows dropping to near 40º.

The Bottomline

Warmth sticks around one more day, luckily aligning with WKU Homecoming.
