Great Weather Thru Monday; Irma Lurks

Happy Saturday, fellow south central Kentuckians!  After a work week of (mostly) incredible weather, the weekend will follow suit.  With that being said, you’ll need to soak it in while you can, before the spirit of Hurricane Irma impacts the area next week.

It’s another cool start for us across the entire region (see map above…temps valid as of 6:50AM).  Readings are ranging between the upper 40s/low 50s.  We’ll see the thermometer climb rather quickly today under sunny skies.  High temperatures this afternoon will be located in the mid/upper 70s.

Not much change is anticipated Sunday into Monday, as what’s left of Hurricane Irma churns our way from the south.  That’ll definitely change things up as we get into Monday night…

Hurricane Irma is expected to weaken substantially after it wrecks havoc on Florida.  It’s expected to track north through Georgia, then kick northwest toward middle Tennessee.  We could see rain as early as Monday night, as the outer bands of what should be “Tropical Depression Irma” by that time, reach us.

Don’t fret over the arrival of another tropical system.  As with any weather maker, this one is vastly different than the remnants of Harvey we experienced a shade over a week ago.

Sure, the forecast may be soggy and breezy Monday night through Thursday, but we’re not anticipating nearly as much rain as what we saw with Harvey, which ranged between 4-8+” for most.

The latest forecast map for precipitation pegs 1-4″ of the wet stuff for south central Kentucky between Monday night and Thursday night.  Those along the Tennessee border will see the most.

Expect cooler temperatures thanks to the clouds, wind and precipitation from the leftovers of Irma.  Highs Tuesday thru Thursday will be limited to the 60s, with overnight lows holding in the 50s.  We’ll warm up substantially Friday through the weekend.

As I previously mentioned, take advantage of the beautiful weather and enjoy the outdoors this weekend.  Come Monday evening, things will take a drastic turn.  Stay safe, folks, and as always, follow @wxornotBG for most frequently updated weather info in south central Kentucky.
