The National Weather Service in Louisville, KY has issued a heat advisory (shaded counties pictured above) for Bowling Green and the surrounding area. Afternoon temperatures in the mid 90s combined with dew point temperatures in the low to mid 70s will yield peak heat index values between 105-110°F.

The National Weather Service states, “The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will lead to an increased risk of heat related stress and illnesses. The very young, the elderly, those without air conditioning, and those participating in strenuous outdoor activities will be the most susceptible.”

Bottom Line: Try to limit outdoor exposure on Friday and Saturday afternoon. If you are going to be outside during that time, be sure to take frequent breaks from your activities and stay hydrated.

A few thunderstorms look possible on Sunday. This may suppress the heat some, though not completely. Thunderstorms are expected to form during the afternoon and evening hours. A few storms may be strong, containing gusty winds, lightning, and heavy rain.

A cold front should move through the region throughout the day Monday and into the overnight hours. While this may bring a chance of storms with it, it should also bring some heat relief into early next week. This morning’s run of the GFS model indicates temperatures may run between 5 to 10 degrees below normal on Tuesday!
