Severe Thunderstorm WATCH Issued

h/t National Weather Service

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm WATCH for all of south central Kentucky until 9pm this evening.  The atmosphere across western and central Kentucky continues to become more unstable as we’ve progressed through the afternoon, providing an environment conductive for strong to severe thunderstorm development.

Looking at meteorological parameters, it’s looking more and more likely that we’ll see strong storms develop between now and 9pm this evening.

Please stay weather aware, and take note of any warning that may be issued.  Main threats with any storm that fires will be damaging, straight-line wind between 55-70+ mph, large hail, and the potential for tornado spin ups.

The latest HRRR simulated radar model expects to see an uptick in active between late afternoon and early evening:

REMINDER: We can’t ignore flooding, either. The entire area is under a Flash Flood Watch through Sunday evening, with potential rainfall totals tallying between 1-3+”.  Don’t be scared, be prepared.
