Discussion

Overnight into early morning, a weak cold front pushed through the region from west to east. As a result, winds have shifted out of the north, allowing slightly cooler air to infiltrate the region. Highs for today will be in the low to mid 40’s under mostly sunny skies. High pressure will build in from the west for most of the day today, setting us up with some nice weather.

A warming trend of temperatures will begin to occur as high pressure moves eastward out of the area. We’ll see an increase in moisture and southerly wind flow, which will bump temperatures up during the day. Highs will be in the low to mid 50’s. By the afternoon/evening, an upper-level jet will start to form in response to a fast-moving shortwave, creating lift throughout the region. This will lead to widespread showers during the evening hours through most of  Saturday.

For Christmas Eve, showers will be off and on for most of the day, accompanied by fairly warm temperatures. Highs will be in the mid 50’s under cloudy skies with intermittent periods of rain showers for most of the day. Showers look to decrease to isolated or scattered chances during the evening hours on Saturday.

Looking to Christmas Day

A potent warm front looks to move through the region on Christmas day, leading to strong, southerly winds infiltrating the area. As a result, temperatures will increase drastically into the mid 60’s! If we have periods of lessened cloud cover, we may get close to breaking the record high for Christmas Day for Bowling Green (70 degrees). We could experience some isolated showers, but we should remain fairly dry, so that’s a good thing, I guess. So much for a white Christmas!
