Tropical Depression Two Forms Over The Atlantic

Yesterday afternoon, Tropical Depression Two formed off the coast of the Carolinas in the Atlantic ocean. The system was fairly weak, and still is. It currently has winds of 35 mph and 1009 mb, but is expected to strengthen into a Tropical Storm later today.

When I saw that this was Tropical Depression Two, I was very confused as the tropical season hasn’t even begun yet. However, I then realized that in January, we saw a Hurricane Form over the far northeastern Atlantic Ocean, Hurricane Alex.

This has been a weird tropical offseason so far, and I am interested to see how the actual season progresses this year. Tropical Depression Two isn’t expected to be more than a heavy rainfall producer, with some gusty winds occasionally. For more info, visit the National Hurricane Center’s website.
