Nicer Bowling Green Weather On The Way

Real-time Bowling Green Weather Radar:

Today: Partly sunny, with isolated showers early. Highs around 68°F. Tonight: Partly cloudy, with lows falling to around 49°F.

Well, yesterday ended up seeing temps reach 64°F, with isolated showers across the region. A verified forecast has me like:

Today, the weaker front that was set up to our south will begin to move off to our southeast with the better forcing moving eastward. This will lower our rain chances overall, and get us into some potential clearing. Look for highs today to end up in the upper 60s across much of the state, with partly sunny skies developing.

Unlike yesterday, much of the state will see similar temperatures within a drier airmass. Northeasterly winds will keep it relatively warm, but it won’t feel too bad outside.

Overnight, look for skies to end up partly cloudy, with lows falling into the upper 40s and lower 50s.

Tomorrow: Mostly sunny, with highs rising to around 74°F. Thur. night: Increasing clouds, with precip chances increasing late. Lows staying around 54°F.

Thursday looks to be the real nice day of the week across the region, and across the state.

“From Pikeville to Paducah”, the weather looks really nice as a shortwave ridge moves through the region. This will occur ahead of the next shortwave to move into the region, and give us some sensible weather.

Focusing more on Thursday, though, this ridge will give us mostly sunny skies and warmer temps across the region. Look for highs to end up in the mid 70s.

Overnight, clouds should begin to increase fairly quickly across the region, and precip chances will increase by early Friday morning. Lows look to only fall into the mid 50s.

Friday: Cloudy, with rain likely. Highs around 63°F. Fri. night: Rainfall exiting gradually. Lows falling to around 55°F.

Friday looks really crummy across the region. Like, horrible. Cloudy, rainy, gloomy. Bleh.

A weak shortwave trough will be moving into the region, and gradually strengthening as it does. In fact, it looks to become a closed low as it moved off to our east Friday night.

As this occurs on Friday, clouds are almost a definite, and rainfall looks likely. The models are too consistent on track of the center of the shortwave, and this is critical in determining overall precipitation intensity and longevity.

If the NAM’s more northerly track occurs, then we will see more rainfall. If the GFS occurs, less rainfall is likely. I think that the track will likely be somewhere in the middle, and I lean towards the NAM.

I do think that we will see a decent bit of rainfall on Friday, but it certainly doesn’t look to be as much as I was thinking a day or two ago. Additionally, depending on the track of the shortwave, there could be a fairly large gradient of precip accumulation across the state.
