The weather the past few days has just been downright cold.
All this chattering of teeth and coat wearing makes me wish that snow was actually falling from the sky. For some, today looks like that may happen! his morning, a shortwave, with a strong jet stream associated with it, will put some of us in prime spot for some snow showers.
The snow will likely come in the form of squalls/showers, and will be briefly intense due to the dynamics with the shortwave. Because of this, any snow shower can reduce visibilities, and drop a quick dusting to quarter inch of snowfall. Our northernmost counties (Butler and Edmondson) have the highest shot at seeing these snow showers, and I see them seeing up to a half an inch of snowfall. The NWS Louisville has a Winter Weather Advisory a tier of counties to the north of these locations, but still be aware as you’re traveling.
Because we’ll be in the warm sector of a low pressure system, look for temps to rise into the mid, and possibly, upper 30s for highs by the afternoon. In addition to the snow this morning, be looking out for some gusty winds by afternoon. Some could see wind gusts up to 30 mph.
Overnight, with clearing skies and a new air mass, look for lows to fall into the mid teens.
Tomorrow: Mostly sunny, with highs around 32ºF. Wed. night: Mostly clear, with a low of 27ºF.
This looks to be the coolest day for the rest of the week, which is a plus!
The Arctic high that will settle in across the region will establish colder air during the day tomorrow. While it’ll be pretty cold across the region, the sun will be shining bright, so we don’t have to worry about any snow showers today.
Highs will only get up into the lower 30s for highs during the day. Overnight, we will begin to see the high pressure system move off to the east, and this will drive winds from southeast, to south, and then to the southwest. This will act to keep lows elevated, and thus, lows will likely come right after midnight. Look for lows in the upper 20s.
Thursday: Warmer. Partly cloudy. Highs rising to around 52ºF. Thur. night: Clouds increasing, with lows around 41ºF.
Thursday should be MUCH nicer than its predecessors, which will be really nice. With the high pressure system moving off to the east overnight Wednesday, this will set up the region to be in deeper southwesterly flow.
It also helps that a low pressure system will be developing to our west during the day. With southwesterly winds, expect temps to rise into the lower 50s across the region, under partly cloudy skies.
In response to the low to our west, I expect clouds to increase through Thursday night, with lows falling only into the lower 40s.
