Today 12/28 – Showers and Thunderstorms; Windy – High 72° / Tonight – Mostly Cloudy – Low 47°

A warm front is currently located across much of Tennessee. This will begin to lift northward into our region during the morning hours. Temperatures will rapidly rise into the 60s and 70s behind the front. I’m expecting a high around 72° in Bowling Green. Strong winds will accompany the front as it moves northward. Southerly winds will be around 10-15 mph with gusts as high as 35 mph possible.

The low pressure system will work its way just northwest of the region. We will be between the warm front and cold front between 9 AM and 6 PM. Heavy rain is expected to move into the region between 11 AM and 4 PM. Embedded thunderstorms will also be possible. Some of these thunderstorms may be strong to severe with damaging wind gusts and flash flooding being the main concern. The window for stronger thunderstorms will be around 3 PM. The Storm Prediction Center currently has us placed in a “marginal” risk of severe weather.

Heavy rain is expected today. With already saturated ground conditions, a flash flood watch has been issued for Bowling Green and surrounding areas for today and tonight. An additional 0.1″ to 0.5″ of rain is possible today. Isolated regions may pick up 1-3″ of rain today. Remember, if you come to a flooded roadway: turn around, don’t drown.

The cold front will move through the region this evening, leading to mostly cloudy and cooler conditions overnight. Lows will be around 47°.

Tuesday 12/29 – Mostly Cloudy – High 51° / Tues Night – Mostly Cloudy – Low 44°

High pressure will begin to work into the region on Tuesday bringing an end to the wet weather. Mostly cloudy skies will likely stuck around with much cooler temperatures expected. Highs will be around 51° for Bowling Green.

Tuesday night will bring mostly cloudy skies with a low around 44°.

Wednesday 12/30 – Partly Cloudy; Showers Possible – High 51° / Wed Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 36°

A longwave trough will begin to impact the region on Wednesday. This could lead to moisture overspreading the region from the south. Isolated showers will be possible across the area, however widespread shower activity is expected just east of I-65 at this time. Highs will be in the low 50s.

Wednesday night will bring partly cloudy skies with lows in the mid 30s possible.
