Christmas Eve Eve brought us unsettled weather as a strong line of thunderstorms moved its way slowly through our area yesterday evening. Plenty of warnings lit up along the line, with severe thunderstorms and even a tornado warning rolling through Bowling Green.

Today will bring us a break in the rain and gloomy weather, as we experience just a taste of high pressure. Clouds and sun will give way to mostly sunny skies, as high temperatures reach the mid to upper-60s! A temperature gradient exists across the state, with south central Kentucky seeing the warmest temperatures. If you’re hoping to get that taste of winter, you’ll definitely be let down today.

Tonight, moisture levels will increase as the next shortwave disturbance makes its way to our area. This will allow for the chance of some showers and even a thunderstorm late overnight. Temperatures will try to drop into the mid-50s tonight with warm air in place.

Christmas, 12/25 – Showers & Storms – High 65˚ / Christmas Night – Showers & Storms – Low 61˚

Christmas Day will not be a white one, like many of us dream of…

It will be wet, but rain will be falling from the sky instead of snow. After the front lifts back northward into our area, it will likely stall and bring us multiple rounds, or waves, of rain with a thunderstorm possible.

Rain looks to really ramp up Christmas morning, as you open presents and eat Christmas breakfast. Overall, this Christmas will be a wet one. The graphic below shows the Quantitative Precipitation Forecast for tomorrow, with 1-1.5 inches of rain possible for Bowling Green over a 24-hour period.

Temperatures on Christmas will be unseasonably warm once again, with highs in the mid-60s and lows dropping just a few degrees below the high overnight. Even with the not-so-desirable weather, Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Saturday, 12/26 – Mostly Cloudy; Chance of Rain – High 75˚ / Saturday Night – Mostly Cloudy; Chance of Rain – Low 64˚

Saturday is going to be absolutely unseasonable. The frontal boundary that stalled over our area for Christmas will begin to move northward into Indiana, with rain showers still possible, but not as probable, for Bowling Green.

Our greatest chance at seeing this rain will be in the morning on Saturday, but it all depends on where the front retrogrades. Because of this, a chance for showers is still in place for Saturday and Saturday night.

Temperatures will SOAR into the mid-70s for Saturday!! Mid-70s… It’s December, yeah? Temperatures will drop into the mid-60s Saturday night, with rain chances increasing again on Sunday.
