Cooler Temperatures on the Way

Real-time Bowling Green weather radar:

Today, 12/16 – Increasing Clouds; Slight Chc of Rain – High 66˚ / Tonight – Rain Showers – Low 40˚

Good morning, Bowling Green! For WKU students, this week has been our first taste of freedom, as winter break began once finals ended last Friday. However, this “winter break” has been feeling more like “spring break” with temperatures in the 60s… Up to 15° above normal for this time of year!

These warmer-than-average temperatures will continue today, thanks to the influence of a warm front and strong southerly flow. Temperatures will hit a high of around 66° this afternoon — let’s not forget it’s DECEMBER 16TH. I mean, I’m all for warm weather, but more than that, I like having seasons…

Right on cue, a cold front will cause an increase in clouds today, with rain chances beginning this afternoon. A secondary wave of showers will move through this evening and into the overnight hours, which looks like will be the better chance at us getting wet.

Showers will clear out early tomorrow morning, with temperatures falling to about the 40° mark.

Thursday, 12/17 – Mostly Sunny – High 48˚ / Thursday Night – Mostly Cloudy – Low 29˚

Behind the cold front, temperatures will begin to feel how they are supposed to this time of year! High pressure and winds from the northwest will help to filter cooler air into the region on Thursday, with high temperatures remaining in the upper 40s! (You can rejoice or mourn – take your pick).

Clouds will begin clearing west to east behind the front, making way for mostly sunny skies by the afternoon. This, paired with temperatures in the upper-40s will make for a nice, crisp December day.

Clouds will begin to build back in overnight, with temperatures dropping below freezing – bundle up!

Friday, 12/4 – Mostly Cloudy; Gradual Clearning – High 40˚ / Friday Night – Mostly Clear & COLD – Low 28˚

Friday will be COLD. Like struggling to hit 40° COLD. That would mark about a 25° difference from today’s high… The power of the atmosphere right there.

More clouds will stick around today before clearing by the late afternoon/evening time. These clearing clouds will allow for even cooler temperatures overnight, with lows in the mid to upper-20s.

Friday will be the coolest day of the week by far, as upper-level ridging starts to build back into our area by Saturday. Our taste of winter definitely will not last long! Above normal temperatures will be back in the picture by Sunday, with the possibility for highs in the 60s for the beginning of next week.
