Today 9/4 – Sunny & Hot – High 91/Tonight – Mostly clear – Low 68
Good morning, Bowling Green! It’s been a broken record of a forecast this week and it looks to continue on into the weekend. Today should heat up to just over 90 degrees across south central Kentucky with dew points in the upper 60s. The ridge of high pressure is easy to see in the surface temperature map with 90 degree temperatures stretching all the way up into Canada.
Isolated afternoon pop-up showers are always a possibility when daytime temperatures get this hot, as we have seen over the last few days. Tonight should be calm and slightly muggy with low temperatures around 68 degrees. It seems like summer wants to get a final word in before fall takes over.
Saturday 9/5 – Sunny & Hot – High 92/Saturday Night – Mostly clear – Low 70
Saturday will likely be a repeat of today with temperatures around 92 degrees and dew points in the upper 60s. If you have any Labor Day Weekend festivities, I’m sorry that you’ll probably be sweating through it. Keep in mind that pop-up showers are always a possibility during the heat of the afternoon.
Saturday night will be a little muggier as winds shift and become more southeasterly. A weak low-level jet stream of Atlantic moisture is visible at 850mb Saturday night. This will likely increase the humidity for Sunday.
Sunday 9/6 – Sunny & Hot…Again; Chance of isol’d afternoon storms– High 92/Sunday Night – Partly cloudy – Low 68
Big surprise – Sunday will be hot, humid, and sunny. Moisture will ramp up a bit as southerly winds pull hot, humid air into the region. Theta-e values, a measure of moisture in the atmosphere, will be relatively high in parts of western Kentucky. This could provide the necessary ingredients for isolated pop-up thunderstorms in the afternoon.
Sunday will heat up to around 92 degrees with dew points climbing into the 70s during the day. I would say on comfort scale of 1-10, we’ll be at a solid 3. I plan on staying inside and cranking up the AC.
This heat will continue into next week but it looks as if a cold front might be impacting our region around Thursday!
Have a great weekend and be sure to check @WxOrNotBG soon for more updates!
