Today officially marks the first day of summer vacation for the Hilltoppers, and it’s starting out pretty wet. Scattered showers and thunderstorms look to stick around for the immediate forecast period.
If you’re heading out to the graduation ceremonies today, be sure to pack an umbrella! An active weather pattern will be coming back into play, allowing the storm chances to continue during the next few days. Not enough atmospheric “ingredients” will be available to make these storms severe or organized, but plentiful moisture will allow them to be widespread.
Temperatures today will be several degrees cooler than yesterday’s highs due to a greater amount of cloud cover. Showers and storms will remain isolated moving into the overnight hours, with temperatures dropping into the mid to upper-60s once again.
Sunday, 5/17 – Sct’d Showers & Storms – High 85˚ / Sunday Night – Sct’d Showers & Storms – Low 67˚
For Sunday – you guessed it – rain chances will continue. I guess we got a little too spoiled with the nice, sunny days over the past few weeks. Plentiful moisture will allow showers and storms to remained scattered throughout the day, with temperatures hitting the mid-80s due to strong southerly winds.
A weakening line of storms will move into the area Sunday night, causing precipitation chances to continue into the overnight hours. Lows will hit the mid to upper-60s, right around where they’ve been the last few nights. Do I sound repetitive yet?
Monday, 5/18 – Sct’d Showers & Storms – High 82˚ / Monday Night – Iso’d Showers & Storms – Low 60˚
Keep your umbrella handy because more showers and storms are in store for Monday with the passage of a cold front. Monday morning will bring a slight break from the rain, but with the increasing instability in the air, showers and storms will pick back up in the afternoon. Some of these could produce heavy downpours.
Below is the quantitative precipitation forecast valid from 7PM Friday through 7PM Monday.
Temperatures will hit the 80s once again before a cold front slides through the area Monday night into early Tuesday. This front will finally allow drier weather to filter through, with temperatures dropping into the low to mid-70s for Tuesday. There’s a light at the end of this tunnel, I promise.
