James Spann is a nationally recognized, awarded, and prominent broadcast meteorologist who is coming to WKU to discuss one of the most devastating tornado outbreaks on record, which occurred during April 2011.  James works in Birmingham, AL, an area that was in the epicenter of the outbreak.

The presentation is currently slated for April 2nd at 5:00 pm in EST (Environmental Sciences and Technology Building) room 260.  If you are interested in meteorology, geography, broadcast media, severe weather, tornadoes, history, and want to see the fantastic personality of James Spann, this is a must see event!  The NWS from Louisville and Nashville will also be in attendance, and all are welcome to a dinner gathering, pending Mr. Spann’s schedule.

Please plan ahead to be there, and drag a friend along too. You won’t be disappointed!

James is a pioneer in the weather world.  He knows what he likes and what he doesn’t, and he’s not afraid to tell you.  He is sure to deliver a cut and clean presentation, with a focus on what many shy away from… the reality of the hurdles we face in communicating weather information to the public.

James has been a role model of mine for a number of years, even though I’ve not had the opportunity to meet him in person.  I’ve been fortunate enough to be a guest on his hit weather podcast, WeatherBrains, which I highly recommend for any weather enthusiast.  It’s a fantastic program.  His teachings and innovative ideas have influenced and inspired me greatly, and without him, Wx or Not would likely not exist today.  Needless to say, I’m definitely looking forward to this event, and you should be too!
