Bleh Bowling Green Weather

Real Time Bowling Green Weather Radar:

Today 2/12 – Scat’d AM Snow Showers; Partly Cloudy; Windy – High 27° / Tonight – Partly Cloudy – Low 15°

Say so long to those nice temperatures we had yesterday. A stout cold front has moved through the region, and temperatures have backed off quite a bit because of it.

The front also brought a bit of moisture to south central Kentucky, thus hit & miss snow bursts will be possible this morning. With temperatures below freezing, be weary of slick spots on the roadways. The radar screenshot below was taken at 6:10AM this morning.  It showcases scattered snow showers closing in on the region:

We’re expecting little to no accumulation from this weak disturbance.  A dusting is certainly possible for those hit by snow bursts.

Other than the cold & snow, we’ll also have to deal with some pretty windy conditions. Wind will be out of the north and northwest around 10-20 mph most of the day tomorrow, with gusts up to 35 mph possible. This will make afternoon highs of 27° actually feel more like 8-13°, so bundle up!

Tonight should bring a decrease in cloud cover as high pressure moves back into the region. Lows will be right around 15°.

Friday 2/13 – Mostly Cloudy – High 37° / Fri Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 25°

The center of high pressure will move pretty much right over the region on Friday morning. This means almost clear skies and pretty cold conditions as we wake up. However, throughout the day the high pressure should move to the east of the region, allowing for those clouds to break up.

We’ll still be under the influence of northwest flow aloft, but some southwest flow at the surface will allow temperatures to rebound a bit. Note: I use the term “rebound” here pretty loosely, as highs will likely only top out in the mid to upper 30s, but hey, that’s better than 20s!

Friday night will bring partly cloudy skies to the region with lows in the mid 20s.

Valentine’s Day 2/14 – Windy; PM Snow Showers – High 40° / Sat Night – Windy; Flurries; Cold – Low

Ahhh, the beloved Valentine’s Day, of course we’ll have great weather for such a romantic holiday, right?

Another cold front will likely move through the region on Valentine’s Day, bringing yet another drop in temperatures. But, before that happens, I think we may reach 42°. As the cold front moves through the region, cold air aloft should allow for snow showers to form. Right now, I don’t think these should amount to too much, but keep in mind temperatures will likely fall below freezing pretty fast, so be careful if you’re out and about during the evening hours.

Conditions will once again be windy as the front pushes through the region. Wind speed on Saturday evening may be between 15-25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 to 40 mph possible. This may change with time.

Something that is most likely to not change with time is the dramatic drop in temperatures on Valentine’s Night. Yep, flurries possible with a low in the single digits. Throw in the aforementioned strong winds and you’re looking at wind chill values between 0 and -10°. Yep, that 10 has a minus sign in front of it.
