January 5th Snow Stretches Across Northern US

A strong clipper system occurred yesterday through the upper Mississippi Valley region to the upper Ohio Valley and into the Mid-Atlantic states. This clipper produced snow in the aforementioned area. Some places in Iowa received up to 7″ of snow throughout the day on Monday. The January 5th snow was a very cold, dry snow, meaning not a lot of moisture had to be in place for accumulations due to the cold air mass.

The storm then took shape over central and northern Indiana where as much as 7″ was measured.

The storm most notably impacted Washington DC this morning as traffic came to a halt in most locations. As much as 5″ fell on the outskirts of Washington DC. However, 3-4″ fell in Washington DC.

Some light snow may be possible across Kentucky tonight, but accumulations, if any, will be minor.
