Good morning, we are off to another chilly start in southern Kentucky today as temperatures are currently hovering in the upper 20s. Fortunately, we will see temperatures climb a few degrees warmer than yesterday thanks to warm air advection ahead of a surface low positioned just to our northwest this morning.

We can expect mostly sunny skies today with high temperatures reaching the upper 30s this afternoon. Surface winds will turn to the northwest by this evening as a cold front pushes well south of the area.

Cloud cover will begin to increase this evening as a weak wave spins through the upper-level trough positioned over the eastern U.S. This wave will deliver a reinforcing shot of cold air and even bring us the chance for some isolated snow showers after midnight tonight. Precipitation looks very light, but with low temperatures falling into the upper teens tonight, it is certainly possible some locations could pick up a dusting of snow overnight.

Wed – Iso’d AM Snow Showers; Windy – High 20˚ / Wed Night – Clear & FRIGID – Low 1˚(!!!)

Isolated snow showers and cloud cover will quickly move out of the area by noon tomorrow as high pressure settles over the region. Skies will become mostly sunny but temperatures will be frigid as cold air advection will be ongoing throughout the day tomorrow.

High temperatures will struggle to reach 20º F and northwest surface winds of 10-20mph will help to create wind chill values ranging from -5º to 10º F tomorrow afternoon. Do whatever you need to do in order to stay warm.

We can expect the coldest night of the year thus far as temperatures will bottom out around 0ºF tomorrow night. Fortunately, winds will become calm overnight but we can still expect wind chill values ranging from -10º to 0ºF

Thu – Mostly Sunny; Cold – High 24º / Thu Night – Partly Cloudy – Low 21˚

Expect another cold and clear day on Thursday with high temperatures a few degrees warmer than on Wednesday. Luckily, surface winds will turn to the south Thursday afternoon and continue overnight. These winds will aid low temperatures in remaining in the 20s overnight.

The cold weather looks to continue on Friday and Saturday with the next precipitation chances coming later in the weekend.
