Good afternoon, a dreary day is in progress across southern Kentucky as low clouds and misty conditions stuck around through most of this morning. Unfortunately, we will see the clouds and chances for a few sprinkles stick around for the rest of the day thanks to stationary front positioned off to our east. High temperatures are expected to reach the middle 40s later this afternoon.
Most of the upper-level support will be to our north later today, so the front to our east will take its sweet time moving away from the area. As a result, expect mostly cloudy skies tonight with a few sprinkles possible. Extensive cloud cover will keep temperatures from cooling off much overnight as our low temperature is expected to drop to near 40º.
Wednesday 12/3 – Mostly Cloudy – High 51° / Wed Night – Mostly Cloudy – Low 34°
It looks like southern Kentucky will get a bit of a break from the dreary weather on Wednesday as the jet stream becomes zonal over the eastern U.S.
Although we will stay dry tomorrow, there will be enough moisture in the atmosphere to keep skies mostly cloudy tomorrow. Afternoon high temperatures are expected to rise to near 50º.Mostly cloudy skies will continue into Wednesday and our low temperatures will be very dependent on cloud cover. If cloud cover is less than expected, we could see low temperatures reach the lower 30s, but if cloud cover hangs on temperatures will only fall into the middle and upper 30s.
Thursday 12/4 – Mostly Cloudy; Isolated PM Showers – High 47° / Thur Night – Mostly Cloudy; Showers – Low 44°
Rain chances will make their return to the forecast on Thursday as an are of surface low pressure is expected to develop to our west. Expect the first half of Thursday to remain dry with mostly cloudy skies across the region. A warm front will begin lift northeast across the state by Thursday evening and this will bring some isolated showers to southern Kentucky by late afternoon.
Precipitation coverage will increase overnight as the warm front pass over the area. Temperatures will only fall a few degrees thanks to the warm air advection associated with the front. Rainfall amounts on Thursday night are expected to remain below 0.25″.
