Dangerous Wind Chills in the Rockies

A strong cold front pushed south across portions of the northern United States last night and brought some wintry weather to parts of Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming. The cold front also ushered in a very cold air mass that is causing temperatures to plummet in the Rockies.

As a result, a wide variety of wind chill products have been issued by the National Weather Service.

Low temperatures are expected to dip below freezing over the next several nights. These temperatures combined with the wind will allow wind chills to dip down to -10 to -20°F tonight and wind chills could fall as low as -30ºF in a few spots tomorrow night. Yikes.

Check out the latest run of the NAM model showing predicted low temperatures at 9am EST Tuesday morning. The color purple indicates temperatures around 10ºF on this map. The pink/red areas indicate temperatures below zero.
