3D Simulation of a Tornado

The Severe Local Storms conference is going on right now in Madison, WI. Over the next several days, research and work will be presented before peers of meteorologists and severe weather enthusiasts. We have gotten a glimpse at some of the work going on at the conference, and it is mesmerizing.

Leigh Orf and several others have come up with a 3D simulation of an EF5 tornado embedded within a supercell. This is a model of the May 24, 2011 Oklahoma City supercell. This 3D simulation of a tornado reveals a lot about the complex structures of the tornado, mesocyclone, and supercell. Give it a watch, but be prepared for a lot of weather jargon.
