Tuesday Afternoon Weather Update

Real Time Bowling Green Weather Radar:

This Afternoon – Partly Cloudy – High 68° / Tonight – Partly Cloudy – Low 39°

Good afternoon, a beautiful day is in progress across southern Kentucky as we remain in a cool and dry air mass. Temperatures are currently in the middle to upper 60s across the region with partly cloudy skies. The reason for the cooler temperatures is our position upstream of an upper-level trough axis that is allowing northwest flow aloft and northerly winds at the surface to advect colder temperatures into our area.

Check out the current look at the jet stream showing this northwest flow over our area.

Surface winds will become calmer overnight which will help our low temperatures drop into the upper 30s tonight under mostly clear skies.

Wednesday 10/22 – Mostly Sunny – High 62° / Wed Night – Mostly Clear – Low 36°

Not much change in the forecast is expected on Wednesday as the same pattern continues. Temperatures may run a few degrees cooler, but otherwise expect another autumn-like day with quiet weather.

Thursday 10/23 – Mostly Sunny – High 63° / Thur Night – Mostly Cloudy – Low 42°

High pressure will settle into the region on Thursday and help to end the cold air advection we have been seeing over the past few days. Winds will become calm underneath this surface high and high temperatures will reach the lower to middle 60s under mostly sunny skies.

Cloud cover will increase by Thursday evening as a weak surface cold front pushes into western Kentucky. This front will be deprived of moisture for the most part and as of now the only real impacts we expect to see from this front are an increase in cloud cover and a shift to westerly winds.

If you have been finding our weather this week just a bit on the chilly side, a ridge is expected to build into our area this weekend which will usher in the return of temperatures in the 70s.
