Remnants of Hurricane Odile Causing Flooding Problems

Hurricane Odile was plowing through the eastern Pacific several days ago before making landfall in Baja California. Now the remnants of Odile have moved into the southwest U.S. where the weakening disturbance is causing enough spin in the atmosphere to produce widespread rainfall throughout the region. Check out the current hazards in the southwest, counties in dark green are under a flash flood watch while counties in the lighter green are under a flood warning.

Storms dumped 1-3″ of rainfall in El Paso, Texas late last night and produced flooding problems around the city. Keep in mind, these storms are impacting areas that see significantly less rain fall than Kentucky on average.

Today’s flood risk is centered over southern New Mexico. In the WPC’s excessive rainfall outlook, a large high risk area runs along the U.S.-Mexico border.
