Arizona Landspout is Pretty Awesome

Today there were a few thunderstorms in the state of Arizona. However, none of these storms were expected to be severe. That just goes to show that meteorology is not an exact science. There were several reports of a tornado/landspout around the Wilcox, AZ area. Check out the following tweets below!

A landspout is described as the following by the American Meteorological Society:

“Colloquial expression describing tornadoes occurring with a parent cloud in its growth stage and with its vorticity originating in the boundary layer. The parent cloud does not contain a preexisting midlevel mesocyclone. The landspout was so named because it looks like a weak Florida Keys waterspout over land.”
