Wildfire Smoke Is Visible Across Kentucky And Beyond

Check out this map from the NOAA Satellite Services Division showing active wildfires in the country and areas that are seeing smoke from those wildfires. This map was released at 5:30 P.M. CST today and it indicates that south central Kentucky has some thin smoke in the atmosphere.

Anywhere there is a red dot on the map indicates an area where NOAA satellites can detect an ongoing wildfire. From there, satellites are used to determine if there is smoke in the atmosphere. As you can see, quite a bit of the U.S. is seeing some smoke from these fires, while Canada is having to deal with areas of very dense smoke.

This is proof that wildfires can have impacts far from their place of origin.  Not only do wildfires cause havoc by destroying forrest and structures, their output of smoke can cause visibility issues.
