High Winds 14 Years Ago

On July 11, 2000 a severe thunderstorm pummeled southern Kentucky with high winds. This storm impacted Butler, Warren, and Barren counties between 6-8pm. Widespread wind gusts of at least 50mph were seen and numerous trees were downed across the three counties.

The downburst that caused the 104 mph wind gust was responsible for snapping some power poles in half near Bowling Green although the location of this report is unclear. Barren County had some issues with power outages after this storm and it was reported that nearly half of the county lost power.

Here is a map from the SPC showing storm reports across the nation that day. A swath of wind damage reports can be seen across southern Kentucky.
