Real-time Radar:

This Afternoon –  Mostly Sunny – High 91º / Tonight – Clear – Low 61º

Good afternoon, beautiful weather continues today with temperatures already into the upper 80s. Dew points around 60° across southern Kentucky are responsible for keeping things very comfortable today. Tonight we will stay clear with temperatures dipping into the lower 60s. If you have outdoor plans tonight…you’re doing it right.

Saturday – 7/12  Partly Cloudy– High 93º / Saturday Night – Mostly Cloudy – Low 71º

The quiet weather will continue on Saturday, but we will see the return of moisture  and warmer temperatures. Winds will turn to south and pump moisture in from the Gulf making it feel a bit more humid than it has been the past few days.

Even though Saturday will be hotter expect another beautiful afternoon. If you are still looking for something to do tomorrow, here’s a hint: Go find a pool, lake, or some type of water and enjoy a perfect July day.

Temperatures on Saturday night will be a bit more mild with lows falling to around 70 degrees. We may see a few more clouds filter in from the north ahead of our next system.

Sunday – 7/12  Partly Cloudy, Hot – High 95º / Sunday Night – Scat’d Showers & T’storms Late – Low 73º

Things will become a bit more interesting by Sunday as a deep upper level trough centers itself over the Great Lakes region and an associated surface cold front slides into Kentucky from the northwest. It looks like the cold front will not make it here until late Sunday night and southwesterly flow ahead of the front will keep us very warm during the day with highs in the mid 90s.

Take a look at what the latest run of the NAM model thinks the radar will look like Sunday night as showers and storms slowly push south along the cold front.

We will have to keep an eye on these storms as it looks like a few of them could be strong to severe. Due to the nocturnal timing of the storms, instability will be lacking but there will be some wind shear along the front the storms can work with. This threat certainly bears watching over the next few days, but one thing we know for sure is that any showers or storms will have the potential to put down heavy rain as precipitable water values will be very high.

Storms look possible once again on Monday as this vigorous upper level trough hangs around. As the trough departs it will bring some changes by the middle of next week. Hint: Big cool down.
