We saw storms today that produced some decent rainfall totals in places that saw precipitation. These rainfall totals have nothing on the storms that caused extreme flooding across southern Kentucky and Tennessee 45 years ago today.

On June 23, 1969 storms rolled across the area packing very heavy rain. Bowling Green experienced its wettest day in June history as we received 5.69 inches of rain in 12 hours. In Allen county, Scottsville received 9.68 inches of rain in 12 hours. This flood still holds as Scottsville’s wettest day on record.

Lots of damage was caused across southern Kentucky and northern Tennessee as a result of the floodwaters.

Allen County was declared a disaster area and the flooding was even worse along the KY/TN border in Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee. Here are some incredible flood photos from that town:
