**Severe Weather Anticipated Today**

There is a very good chance that multiple rounds of severe weather will occur today, as a cold front closes in from our west.  Currently, a strong line of thunderstorms are tracking E across the area.  You can utilize the radar tools above to follow the activity.  Main threats with this line will be damaging straight-line winds and small hail.

As we progress throughout the morning, how conditions evolve will determine how the rest of our day unfolds.  For the best possible outcome, we need clouds and rain to hang around as long as possible.  This will suppress instability, an important ingredient for severe weather.

On the other hand, if rays of sunshine become vibrant, severe weather will be more likely.  This will add instability to our atmosphere, priming conditions for a potential outbreak across portions of the Tennessee & Ohio Valley’s.

Current thinking is that the timing for heightened concern will be from 1pm this afternoon – midnight Tuesday morning.  The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has southern Kentucky included in an elevated risk (yellow) for severe weather today:

Threats with today’s storms have been broken down by the SPC as follows…  A 30% probability you will see severe winds (≥58mph) within 25 miles of you:

A 30% probability you will see severe hail (≥1″ in diameter) within 25 miles of you.  The hatched area means you have at least a 10% probability of seeing hail ≥2″ in diameter within 25 miles of you:

Please stay alert and make sure you are prepared as we progress throughout the day.  Again, parameters are in place for a potential severe weather outbreak this afternoon into tonight.  Know your plan of action in case any warnings are issued. Have MULTIPLE sources to keep you informed as this system evolves.

It’s also worth noting that flooding could become a concern over the next few days.  The latest QPF output suggests rainfall amounts of 2-4+” will be possible through Wednesday morning:
